What is South By Due East?
On the week it is held,
South by Due East is a multi-day live music festival
and movie-shoot organized by musicians for musicians.

After that, and on an ongoing basis,
SOUTH BY DUE EAST is a guerilla marketing experiment which is
based in the logic that if we make a film with 40 musical acts
in the film, everyone benefits! Not only will each artist
own new video for free, each act will also get exposure to all of the fans
who view the movie to see all of the other acts.

and a whole lot more!

Who may participate at SOUTH BY DUE EAST?

We welcome musical artists of all genres and locations!

When SOUTH BY DUE EAST began,
we goofed and welcomed only local artists from
Houston, Texas, USA. We wanted to promote our great music scene in Houston!

We later realized that our marketing reach was stronger
when we included touring bands from other communities,
who spread the word as they travel and when they go home.

When is SOUTH BY DUE EAST?
Held annually in March around the celebration weekend of St. Patrick’s Day
and at the end of Austin’s SXSW’s Music Festival time.

Where is SOUTH BY DUE EAST held?
Cool Houston Clubs known and loved for their regulars with adventurous musical tastes
and delightful outdoor patios. The first south by due east was held at the legendary
internet radio station earthwire.net as a protest against the lack of diversity of
Houston representation at SXSW. We strive to keep the original sense of community involvement
and comfort level.

Past participating venues include Super Happy Funland and Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar.
We’ll announce the venue for 2007 in November, 2006.

Why play South by Due East?

• FREE VIDEO! If accepted, its’ like getting a $2000 shoot for
  the price of the submission fee and travel costs.
  
• FREE AUDIO! Multi-track recording of your whole set - mixed by a pro!
  One song will be edited with multiple cameras and mastered audio.
  
• Appearance on cool local cable access show.
  
• Exposure to a Houston audience via our
  co-operative advertising (print, radio,
  internet bulletin boards, newsletters, emails, etc…)
• Ongoing exposure via our website www.southbydueeast.com,
  and elsewhere, where we’ll post finished videos.
  
• A free meal for participants & crew – especially important
  if you’re a road band traveling out of Austin and need to
  escape the price gouging at that other festival.
  
• We produce video shows and provide content for
  other producers on a continuing basis. If we make money
  on your content – you make money.
  
• Exposure to new fans, branding your name to media sources &
  introductions to venue owners/managers with venues to fill in the Houston area.

What's the deal with the video?
Your set will be professionally lit, filmed with multiple cameras,
and recorded on multi-track recorders by pro-audio guys.
You co-own all the raw material along with South by Due East
and are free to use it as you please.

How many acts get accepted?
We have slots for 50 bands and 20 films

How do I submit my band/act for entry?
Download the attached form, fill it in and return it along with a Bio, a Press Kit with one sheet, an MP3 representative of your best material, current Publicity Photo, Video clip if you have one, Direct contact information and the submission fee of $20.00 per act to {paypal eddress inserted here}

We accept Paypal, cashier’s and personal/band checks. Deadline for 2007 applications for show is Wednesday, January 31, 2007. All bands will be notified of their status by February 5, 2007.
